I'm not the biggest Barbara Pym fan and I can't even remember whether I've ever read The Sweet Dove Died. But I noticed this today and thought I'd pass it on .... Barbara Pym the Musical! I had visions of dancing spinsters and vicars but this is one of her later books and not a social comedy, I don't think. Doesn't tempt me enough to take to me to NW8 on a cold night but for hard core fans it might be a fun excursion. Here's a link to the theatre and here's the songs.

I have never, yet, read a Barbara Pym novel but I finished Angela Thirkell's (supposedly similar to Pym) 'Wild Strawberries' yesterday. I made the mistake of reading the introduction which told me how funny it was - so you can imagine that I didn't find it funny at all, what a waste of time and money.
I know what you mean, Toffeeapple - and a little Thirkell goes a long way, though she can be enjoyable if you're in the right mood. I thnk Barbara Pym is rather better, but I can get irritated by the vicarage groupies/spinsters - think my Irish genes rebel and I find both writers Too English.
I have sent this to my brother who is a fan.
I thought somebody out there would like it, Lucille!
