I thought this looked interesting but I soon got rather bored by this Canadian astronaut telling me - repetitively - what a hard-working, humble, thoroughly reliable, all-round decent good guy he is. I'm sure I'd like to have him onside in a crisis, but he sent my Great British cynicism soaring. I was hoping for something more like this.

Yes! The Right Stuff is a terrific book.
It's ages since I read it, Callmemadam - but it was brilliant, wasn't it? And far more convincing than Mr Canadian Nice Guy!
Must look out for The Right Stuff... Chris Hadfield was just a bit too good to be true!
Far too much of his own opinion of himself, Gina! The Right Stuff is from another generation of space travel but it's still a great read.
I so agree with you about him. He just keeps on banging on and on.
So repetitive, isn't it, Toffeeapple? I once went to a talk by an astronaut who banged on in just the same way - are they a type? Was hard to believe that here was a man who had done something so interesting and managed it to make it so boring. He couldn't seem to raise the discussion beyond the 'how do you go to the loo' question.
Your last sentence made me laugh aloud! And yes, I think they must be a type but I can't speak about 'our Tim'.
