I'm completely engrossed by the nuances of moral compromise in occupied France...

But less so by Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels now that the focus has shifted away from Lila and 'the neighbourhood' and is more political. I've finished book 3 but I'm flagging, losing track of who's who and not sure I care enough to continue. Should I press on to discover the mystery of Lila's disappearance which is where it all began about 1200 pages ago? I feel disappointed with myself as a reader because I so loved the first book, don't really want to abandon these characters after living with them for so long - but maybe it's time to part. Has anybody else made it to the end?

No question of giving up on Bordeaux. I can't wait for the next one.

I did wonder! I have never knowingly fiddled around inside my spacebar but am wrestling with my own demons because of the Mac upgrade. Pah!

Read the fourth! I read them back to back last summer and was equally engrossed in each one. But many say the fourth is the best. Don't want to give anything away but you could feel it was a waste of time if you're looking for a tidy summing up. Thank you for your blog! It's a favorite of mine.

I didn't realise there had been an upgrade - that might explain other problems, Lucille. It's on a go-slow, for sure. The spacebar may/may not be related to a few drops of spilt tea-but it really was only a drop!

I'm pleased you enjoy it, Anonymous. I'm sure I will read the fourth. I think back to back is the way to do it,so you can keep track of who's who-but you would need a fortnight off work!

Is my blog loading slowly or presenting other problems to the outside world?

You're fine and healthy as far as I can see, Lucille.
