Judi Dench is simply brilliant as the ageing Queen, greedy, cantankerous and lonely; the Munshi ... well, the Munshi twinkles and simpers and might have bhangra-ed his way out of a B-list Bollywood movie. It would be more interesting if he'd been presented as a more rounded character. Never mind, it's a bit of a royal rom-com but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the way Dame Judi gobbles a profiterole; it reminded me how much I enjoyed this book.
Victoria sounds like a woman after my own heart when it comes to food - there's very little I say no to!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading 'Reader for Hire' by Raymond Jean. Heard it serialised (in part) on Irish radio and got myself a copy.
The Higgins gallery in Bedford has a 'Bawden by the Sea' exhibition currently running so I've planned to go and see that next week. Next plan is to come to London for some exhibitions and/or theatre. Less spending money in the charity shops and more culture for me!
I don't often say no either, Veronica. But Victoria suffered terribly from indigestion. I'm still getting away with it!
ReplyDeleteThat exhibition sounds lovely - but are you sure it's still on? I googled it and it seems to have finished. I went to the Towner earlier this week - fabulous exhibition of Ravilious/Bawden etc but it's closing soon.
No, it's on until January 2018, Mary so plenty of time to see it. The Higgins is tiny though so it won't be a big exhibition.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they extended it and didn't update the website! I've never been there.
ReplyDeleteThe movie trailer is delightful! I can't wait to see it.
