Ohhhh, what a lovely film -
Belfast, Kenneth Branagh's semi-autobiographical reminiscence of his childhood,is simply stunning - as beautiful as a Cartier-Bresson photograph, brilliant performances all round, and my money is on Best Picture, Best Actor (the little boy) and Best Supporting Actress (Judi Dench as the old granny).
Quite a starry night at the Festival Hall as everyone turned out - Branagh himself, Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe in a stunning gold Stella McCartney frock, Ciaran Hinds - and Judi Dench, but she's so tiny and as the whole of the Festival Hall stood up to clap, I didn't even catch a glimpse of her from the back of the stalls.
I'd love to see this! Glad it wasn't such a disappointment as 'Mothering Sunday'!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

it was lovely, Vronni - definitely my best film of LFF. Mothering Sunday was soooooo slow! Overheard a woman coming out saying 'That was the worst film I've ever seen.' I wouldn't be as cruel as that - but two hours zipped past and only felt like five!
ReplyDeleteHow did you know it was a Stella McCartney dress? I'm puzzled by your fashion know-how (though as you know, I feel you're effortlessly elegant so maybe you just instinctively feel her style).
ReplyDeleteOh, I wear Stella McCartney when I'm mopping the kitchen, Pam. And when I need a closer look at a glamorous gown, I check it out in the Daily Mail when I get home!
ReplyDeleteI do love this effortlessly elegant image I've managed to acquire - I fear I would be a sorry disappointment in the flesh!
Well, I do hope so! I'm short and plump and live in trousers and a shirt myself...
ReplyDeleteHoley M&S jumper here, Pam! It is effortless, if not elegant!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed the film, Mary. Your description really made me want to see it too. But I just looked it up and it is not showing at our Picturehouse until February 2022! I'll have to add it to the calendar and be patient.
ReplyDeleteI know, it's a long wait, Sue. I think I read that it was going to be November and then they delayed it to be nearer the Oscars/Bafta. One to look forward to, anyway - I'd happily see it again.
