There is only one Maigret and that's the one my dad watched in black and white in the 1960s. I was supposed to be in bed but I remember the theme tune so well that I must have been dragging my heels; if you were quiet, Dad forgot about you.
But I do think that Rowan Atkinson is an inspired choice for a re-make.

Have just looked at the link and seen the trail for this new series - it looks like it will be good.

I was surprised how French he looks, Sue.

I remember the original series and, having seen the clip, think that RA seems to fit the bill perfectly.

I was disappointed that there wasn't more food, Toffeeapple - in the books Madame Maigret is always making delicious dinners! Maybe in episode 2.

Like you, I have vague memories from childhood of Rupert Davies as Maigret but also thought Michael Gambon rather good. I haven't seen Rowan Atkinson yet, but imagine he would make a pretty good job of it.

Yes I'm enjoying this but will watch the rest tomorrow when less tired. RA has a very authentic look. Wonderful opening credits. I wonder where it was filmed.

I think it was Budapest, Lucille - looks more like Paris did then than Paris does now,if you follow me. Isn't there supposed to be a second episode? Not sure when that's on.
