It's amazing what you find on-line when you're looking for something else. I've been wanting to see this 1946 film for ages - it's one of my favourite Dorothy Whipples - but never tracked it down before. Original quest forgotten, I had the kettle on in a jiffy.

If you like old films have you tuned in to channel 81 TALKING PICTURES TV?
It is on freeview and freesat all day every day.
Some of the gems on there---SOME OTHER LOVE with Stanwyck THE WOMAN IN QUESTION with Jean Kent and THE SEVENTH VEIL with James Mason.

I was thrilled to learn of Talking Pictures, Tina, only to find that I can't get that channel in rural Dorset, where I live. :-(

I didn't know there was a film of They Knew Mr Knight. Obviously a must see.

I didn't know that a film had been made of it!

I think I'd be watching that all day,Tina- but it doesn't seem to work online and I got rid of my very old-fashioned television.

I was thrilled to find Mr Knight. I knew it existed because it has occasionally been shown as a rather expensive Persephone Books event. I was hoping it would turn up online eventually. I did enjoy it-and it seemed true to the book, though it's a good while since I read it.

What Cornflower said. I'm storing that up as a treat when things quieten down here.
