I finally embraced autumn when I saw the amazing arrangements at Petersham Nurseries this afternoon ... dahlias the size of dinner-plates, sunflowers, apples, branches of crab apples, garlands of hops, bundles of baby round carrots. (Yes, carrots.)
I felt so autumnal, I even chose pumpkin and Taleggio quiche for my lunch. Instead of cake. This is unheard of.
Maybe it was Sue that made me think of picking a huge, prickly bunch of haws on the way home. Every single person who passed me asked if you can eat them.
And one girl asked if they were hallucinogenic. Er ... not last time I tried. But I can't say that I've ever inhaled.

Chrysanthemums, definitely. I don't see the big bronze ones very often these days. Maybe they're in proper flower shops.
Actually, I'd settle for Mrs M's tea. Waiting for her when she got in.

There as a 'home grown at Ham' event at Ham House today, it was super. I must pop round to Petersham Nurseries during the week to see the display, it sounds delightful.

Dahlias? I couldn't love them more, especially as a backdrop while eating something delicious at Petersham.

I saw signs for that, Jude, and wondered what was happening. But the traffic was so bad this afternoon that I got there rather late.
I love dahlias, Charlie. I wish they still sold them in zinc buckets outside greengrocers. Well, they probably do but not in London.

It has been my annual quest to find some bronze chrysanthemums ever since I first read of Mrs Miniver carrying her sheaf down the street.

Whatever happened to them, Lucille? I see pale yellow ones often, but they look rather anaemic and I'm sure they're smaller than those big bronze ones. And yet I remember my mum buying them every year because she had them at her wedding.

Those berries are absolutely gorgeous! And I'm very impressed by a quiche that can take top billing over cake. Sounds delicious!
