This morning, to my surprise, I opened the last jar of homemade marmalade 2014. I didn't make any this year to give myself the chance to catch up - and now I'm sorry. I was so shocked - my kitchen cupboards are always cluttered with jam jars, empty and full - that I got up on the stepladder to see if marmalade was lurking in corners.
Meanwhile, apricot jam 2015 is disappearing fast. The single precious jar of rosepetal jam is eked out in teaspoonfuls on Greek yogurt.
I think of all those pounds of sugar on my hips. And wonder if I should make some more?

A tree near us was heavy with apricots last week. Unfortunately it was in someone's back garden...with a fence. Fortunately a few branches were hanging over so I was able to reach up and grab one but there was a hazard - squirrels. I dried a pit, sprouted it, and now it's in a pot. What are my chances of ever seeing a pot of jam through the effort?
That could be apricot jam 2030, if you're feeling up to it, Darlene? It tastes delicious but apricots are so pricey that you don't save much by making your own.
Hahaha...my thoughts exactly. The Meyer Lemon marmalade for 2016 is looking very promising though!
Now that will be something! Promise me you'll make it!
It's years and years and years since I mad jam or marmalade. There is pick your own fruit around at the moment, and I have lots of empty glass jars (I always keep them) and still have the preserving pan, but it's a bit manky inside because it got used for dying things - if I used wire wool to scrub it clean (and lots of elbow grease!) do you think it would be safe to make jam in it?
I'm just imagining blue-streaked jam, Christine! Maybe if you have a really good go with a Brillo Pad. But you don't need a preserving pan. I just use an ordinary saucepan.
I didn't make enough either!
