Lovely afternoon all on my own at Sadler's Wells, watching Birmingham Royal Ballet's Fire & Fury programme: one ballet inspired by the Sun King Louis XIV ...
And one inspired by Turner's painting The Burning of the Houses of Parliament. There's a trailer here. Down side is I have to work tonight to catch up, but it was worth it!

Sounds like the evening of working was worth it!
Sadly, I'm still catching up, Veronica - never do today what can be left until the last minute! But it was worth it.
Just reading the reviews of La Bayadere in the papers today and thinking I need to go to the ballet again. I used to go regularly when Darcey Bussell and Sylvie Guillem were dancing. Sometimes work needs to wait!
I used to go often, too, but hadn't been for ages, Nicola - and I know what you mean, blink, and there's a whole generation of new dancers. Loved Sylvie Guillem (her career spanned the years when I could afford nice seats!) though I wasn't so keen on her later contemporary work. Hard to believe she's retired. I remember seeing both Guillem and Bussell in Manon in the same week - so the compare/contrast was very fresh in my mind - and they were so different. Must have been a birthday present to myself!
