If your pancakes were flabby
And refused to flip
And broke up in the pan;
If you dropped the lemon quarters
Into the batter
(And no, that's never happened before).
If the second batch was even worse than the first
But you ate them anyway.
Because why waste them
When they could sit on your hips for the rest of the year?
If you said some rude words
That you didn't learn from Mary Berry
(Although you might have picked them up from Gordon Ramsay).
You could always join me
In giving up cooking. For Lent.

I've just looked at yours, Sue. Now I am upset!

Mine were a flipping disaster this year Mary. I blame Monty Don. Tasted OK though with homemade orange curd. I hope Sue is taking note of that bit.

Orange curd sounds far classier than mine were, Lucille. I always have my disasters with the easy things. I blame lack of concentration!

WE cut pancakes into strips, fry up onions and any left over mince meat or anything around add the strips fry it up a bit low heat add a beaten egg and eat the thing. Delicious!

That sounds good, Mystica. Though I think mine were too stodgy to be rescued!

Mine were fine, being Delia's. I have cracked the problem of the sitting-on-hips: feed most of them to your cleaner, who regards them as the ultimate treat, and who reckons that hoovering the stairs burns off any surplus calories! I have two - the first (never a good one), and the misshapen last, made with not quite enough batter, and I just know as 'seconds' they are calorie-free.

I've given up the experimental low-fat diet for Lent.....

I'm all right then, Rachel. I think the whole batch counted as 'seconds', definitely 'factory-damaged.'

I should never have strayed from Delia.

I make them up as I go along, Lucille, maybe that's the trouble!

I pondered pancakes but felt they would be too heavy after our perogie party...and made homemade fish and chips instead! Does that make any sense at all?

Darlene, you can write a chapter when I write my diet book. We obviously think along the same lines.

Pancakes with built-in lemon slices ..... convenience food at its best !
And as for fish and chips being the "Lite" alternative ? Makes perfect sense to me .
