When this grave caught my eye in Highgate cemetery the other day, it made me laugh - and I discovered that it belongs to the late artist Patrick Caulfield.
Succinct.
And witty.
And very striking amongst so many tearful angels.
It has only just struck me that it's also a pun on the Victorians' stairway to heaven imagery pointed out by our guide.

Well, that image took me a while to work out, but I finally got it! As you say, succinct and witty.

An artist to the very end. I prefer tearful angels but this is definitely witty, and finding something to laugh about in a graveyard is not a bad thing.

It certainly stood out, Darlene and Toffeeapple. Most modern gravestones are so bland and anonymous. I really liked this.
