I've only listened to the first episode - with the Nazi top brass held in the Grand Hotel at Bad Mondorf, in Luxembourg, otherwise known as Camp Ashcan - and so far this Radio 4 series promises to be fascinating.
I've just finished reading 'East, West Street' which was totally absorbing and so well written; the final section was devoted to the 'Nuremburg Trials'.
I can recall doing my homework one evening at home when I was about 12 so it was about 1965; my Dad was watching TV in the same room. It must have been a televised version of the Nuremburg Trials that was on whilst I was doing my homework; I was listening surreptitiously to it and it made my blood run cold. My dad finally realised I was in the room and shouldn't have been and sent me off to bed. I've never forgotten it. xxx
I haven't read that book, Vronni - it sounds interesting. And in 1965 it must all have seemed so recent - not to children, we thought the war was ancient history - but 20 years seems like the day before yesterday to me now.
