Well, that was .... boring. I think I slumbered through the second half. A saccharine Wonka with no darkness in his soul - Roald Dahl must be spinning in his grave.

I’m not surprised. In fact, couldn’t put up with the original film because of, probably unfairly, taking against Gene Wilder but also because of the songs. Mostly the sickly Pure Imagination. Do you have any recommendations for children’s theatre in London over Christmas and January? Anna
I'm not much help, Anna - the children I used to take out are all grown-up now. The Old Vic's Christmas Carol is always very good - I've been twice and enjoyed it hugely. Not theatre, but it's quite a theatrical experience - a Christmas visit to Denis SEvers' house in Spitalfields.
