Well, that was disappointing. The first new public flower market for 150 years - and there weren't any flowers! Honestly, none - just house plants and bedding plants - and I was looking forward to coming home with armfuls of dahlias. It has been billed as the Columbia Road of the West - I think I'll stick with the Columbia Road of the East. Only too happy to Buy Flowers to Help Out - but I came home disgruntled without getting my purse out!

I love the idea of you with armfuls of dahlias, though I do wonder about the earwigs.
Nice thought, except for the earwigs, Pam! But why is it so hard to find dahlias? They used to sell them in buckets at the greengrocers - I haven't seen any for sale this year.
One of the mysteries of lockdown. If market gardens are anything like my garden, then they have no dahlias because the slugs eat them. At least earwigs don't have big appetites.
Can't blame lockdown, Pam - dahlias have been hard to find for years! And the slugs have always fancied them.

I picked armfuls of Montbretia when I was in Ireland. Had jugfuls everywhere; they grow in such abundance over there.
We visited Wyvern Bield gardens a while ago: I was looking forward to the Dahlia Garden but it was closed...the Rose Garden made uo for it though!

I couldn't place montbretia - then realised it's crocosmia - growing wild? How lovely!

PS - I also visited Hemmingford Grey during the lockdown easing - such a pretty small garden; home of the author of 'The House at Green Knowe' Lucy Boston.
